White Mountain School Alumni & Students Celebrate New Spaces

We're happy to share a video and a few photos from one of our favorite clients, The White Mountain School. They recently had their annual Alumni Weekend and this week the school is partaking in their creative Spirit week, including “twin day”! In honor of these events, they've put together a video celebrating the 2016 summer renovations of the McGoldrick Library & Research Center, and the Lovejoy Chapel. Ruhl Walker provided both the architectural and interior design for both projects and a wide range of contemplative and collaborative spaces totaling over 10,000 square feet. We love seeing how everyone is enjoying the new spaces!

 

What used to be an open, empty space primarily used only once a day for “morning meeting” is now full of people and energy all day long.
The main space has a wide range of sizes of tables and seating areas to appeal to all varieties of study habits.
In the center of the main space is a 16’ long counter height table referred to as the coffee bar.
Visible through the 25’ high wall of glass is Ruhl Walker’s Catherine Houghton Arts Center built in 2014.
Next to the main double height space is a more intimate “living room” with more casual furniture and custom bookshelves for student artwork as well as a few select books.
The research center is not only for quiet contemplation and intense study…
…but when quiet is needed there are several small study and collaborative rooms.
What once was a traditional library with stacks of books rarely checked out is now a range of study and classroom spaces.
The Lovejoy chapel is a non-denominational, multi-purpose space suitable for events of all sizes including daily morning meeting with the entire school community as well as public events for over 250 people.
What is now the Lovejoy Chapel was previously 6 classrooms and several offices, built in the late 1950’s. Our design is sympathetic to the original mid-century modern design aesthetic
Daily morning meetings take place in the Lovejoy Chapel and for over 125 years the entire school community sits on the floor, with speakers standing casually.
Today is “Twin Day”, part of Spirit Week!
